Former Corpus Christi Mayor Joe Adame has joined the Coastal Bend Business Innovation Center as Entrepreneur-in-Residence. Adame, who now has an office at the Innovation Center, will be available to clients and staff for coaching, networking assistance, and general business advice.
“Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has always shown its commitment to investing in the future of Corpus Christi,” said Adame. “It’s important for me to be a part of this team that shares the same vision as I do in growing our own talent and nurturing these businesses to thrive.”
The Corpus Christi native and resident served two terms as Mayor of Corpus Christi and retired from his role in November 2012. As Mayor, he served as Region XX President of the Texas Municipal League; and as President of the Boards of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Corpus Christi Convention and Visitor Bureau, Texas State Aquarium, and the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center.
“We’re excited to welcome Joe Adame and his new ideas to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi,” said Dr. Flavius Killebrew, President and CEO of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. “His experience as a business and community leader will assist the Innovation Center in continuing to create opportunities and help bring more jobs to our Coastal Bend region.”
Adame remains active in the real estate business along with his sons, Chris and Mark. Adame is owner of Joe Adame and Associates, a commercial/industrial real estate company dealing in real estate sales, leasing, management, appraisal, development and consulting. He has received many awards for his business savvy. In 2008, Adame was inducted into the Junior Achievement of Corpus Christi Business Hall of Fame; and he was presented with the Lone Star William Jennings Award from the Texas Association of Realtors for the Most Outstanding Commercial Real Estate Transaction of the Year in 1995.
In 1997, Texas Gov. George W. Bush appointed Adame to serve on the Texas Real Estate Center Advisory Committee at Texas A&M University. Adame served from 1997 to 2006.
“Having Joe Adame as Entrepreneur-in-Residence will enhance our commitment to promoting long-term economic prosperity in our area,” said Bill Cone, Director of the Innovation Center. “His dedication to improving our city is an asset to our mission of fostering the economic growth of our region.”
Adame has served on the Corpus Christi Housing Authority, Airport Advisory Board, Regional Transportation Authority, Del Mar College Foundation, Spohn Christus Development Foundation, and Leadership Corpus Christi Class XI. He also initiated the Annual Leadership Prayer Breakfast in 1989.
